I bought this fan after reading many of the reviews here. I have sensitive hearing and this fan is truly quiet on speed 1. Speed 2 isn’t bad and speed 3 is louder but I rarely have to use anything but speed 1. I use my fan in my bedroom for direct cooling. I experienced the annoying ticking of the timer when I first got it and tried it out, but as long as you don’t turn that knob, the fan doesn’t tick. Some reviewers complained that the fan doesn’t really oscillate. The grill rotates counterclockwise and moves the air only a little, not nearly as much as a fan that moves from side to side. I get dizzy if I watch it. $20 is a great price for this awesome little fan. I highly recommend it. I’ll be buying another one.

With all the fans I’ve bought lately, I’m becoming something of an authority on the subject. That said, for its purpose, this is a perfect fan. What makes it so?
It’s QUIET. I can put it on my beside table at low or even medium speed and barely hear it. Sometimes I have to look to make sure it’s on.
It pivots diagonally. Oscillation is provided by the front vent which turns, so the fan itself doesn’t move. Oscillator can be turned off if desired.
Mounts on a wall or table. It does have a tipover switch, so locating it where it works best can be a challenge, but not a problem.
Has a two hour timer or run continuously. Three speeds. Low gives you a gentle breeze and is as close to silent as you can get. High gives you a nice breeze you can feel across a room.
It’s a good value. You won’t find a better fan for less. I don’t think you’ll find a better fan of this size at any price.
I liked this fan so much I bought another, and will probably buy a third. In summer it is the perfect bedroom fan. In winter it moves warm air around the house, or pushes warm air down from a high ceiling.
I should disclose that when I got my first one, either the tipover switch was defective, or I was doing something wrong. Regardless, Amazon quickly replaced it at their expense.
Sometimes you just are really satisfied with a common product that normally you wouldn’t even notice. I came upon this product by chance (in the Gold Box deals), and am delighted with this purchase. Highly recommended.

Soleus Air FTY-25 10-Inch Wall Mountable Table Fan

At first I wasn’t sure if I would like this fan, but after using it for a few months, I decided that I liked it enough to buy a second one. I’m not one of those people who like “white noise,” so for me, the quietness of a fan is a big selling point. For a mid-size fan, the Soleus Air FTY-25 is exceptionally quiet when compared to others that I have purchased in the past.

It does oscillate, but not in the typical way, and I think its method of oscillation might be one of the reasons it is so quiet. In other words, on most fans, the entire “head” of the fan oscillates, and after awhile, that type of oscillation can lead to annoying rattling sounds. On this fan, only the grill oscillates, so you get a gentle, soothing movement of air rather than aggressively pushed air. Therefore, when trying to sleep, I prefer the Soleus Air. (The oscillation feature can be turned off, too.)

This fan is designed sort of like a globe of the world, i.e., the head of the fan rotates on a fixed axis. The axis is on a slight angle. So, if you prefer to place the fan on the floor, if you turn the head of the fan to the side, and the air will blow upwards at about a 45-degree angle. It took me awhile to realize this (duh!), so that is why I am mentioning it. I had been using it as a simple table fan and had not tried turning it sideways. The other night, I tried using it as a floor fan instead of a desk fan, and voila — I realized that it actually could be angled upwards. Excellent!

I also like the fact that it has a silent timer (anywhere from 0 to 120 minutes). That’s fine, but I would have preferred a 4-hour maximum (or longer), but that’s not a big deal. And I do wish that it had a remote control because it’s such a great fan for the bedroom. (If the Soleus people are reading this, maybe the next generation could include a remote control?)

It’s wall-mountable, too, but I haven’t tried that. Overall, this is a great mid-sized fan, and I highly recommend it for people who are looking for a fan that gets the job done without a lot of noise.

This is the quietest fan I have ever seen. Even those fancy bladeless fans make more noise. It also moves more air than the noisier fans on the market. If you’re looking for something to use while sleeping, especially if you share a bed with someone who is super sensitive to any regular pattern of noise, this is your fan, hands-down.

Now, if you want an oscillating fan, this is probably not for you. The front grill on this one can be set to rotate, and the fins on this grill will cause a slight oscillation as it rotates, but it isn’t much.

As a final note, operation is a little counter-intuitive; you must first turn the timer dial to the position marked “on” (which does not set a timer in this particular case), and then operating the on/off/speed dial will work as expected. I was at first worried that the unit was DOA.

Pardon the pun, but the Soleus Air FTY-25 is the coolest table fan I’ve ever owned. Unless you’re really cramped for space, whisper operation, unmatched feature set, solid construction, interesting design and twenty dollar price point raise this fan well above a crowd of sameness.

On low speed it’s near silent which makes it perfect for the night stand, creating a peaceful breeze across my bed . (Another reviewer noted a loud timer mechanism and Soleus may have rectified this. I have to put my ear right next to it, with the fan off, in order to hear it at all.)

High speed does a good job moving air, quietly at that – stand next to it and it’ll cool you off fast. More suited to mild circulation in a large room at this and medium speeds, cooling off a larger room of folks is better left to larger table or floor and free-standing fans.

The neatest thing about the Soleus is the switch selectable spinning front grille which creates gentle fluctuating waves of air. A first showing to friends and family evokes a giddy response every time. Not as effective, or as abrupt, as a fan head swinging through a 140 degree arc, it nonetheless eliminates the static current one gets from a stationary fan.

The silent operation, the two hour timer, a unique soothing oscillation mode, the deco styling with a match-all finish, a reasonable footprint and mounting versatility make this the ultimate personal fan.

I decided to go without air conditioning this summer (money was a factor, but the main factor was that air conditioning fouls our common atmosphere while raising the outdoor temperature for everybody outside the cool cocoon). So I needed more fan coverage. I bought this Soleus on the basis of the very good user reviews and the low cost. What I got exceeded my expectations. I love the unique asymmetric design, with the key controls in front (most fans have them in the back). The fan stands on feet that look like seaplane pontoons. The grill has a beautiful oscillating pattern (but watch out, it can be hypnotizing). Functionally, it’s very clever that only the grill oscillates, rather than the entire fan. Overall a very pleasing retro aerodynamic design. Then there is the silence. I own several fans, and this one is by far the quietest. A Vornado desk fan I have is far noisier, much more expensive, and it doesn’t oscillate. The timer is a good, though by no means essential, feature; and it is not at all noisy, as one user says. And the price is surprisingly low. I would gladly have paid twice as much.

I have three of these fans. I like the features, the ease of use, how quiet they are. I mounted two on the wall and they do a great job supplementing my house centeral air conditioning, moving air more to where I set and work in these two rooms. The fan head turns more than enough to point it and still mount it vertical on the wall. Looks good. I like the rotating grill much better than those fans that turn their whole ‘body’. I used an extension cord and plugged it into the wall outlet that I can turn on both the room light and fan with a single click. Nice quiet unit.

I originally bought this fan because of the wall-mounting feature, which I needed to equalize the air conditioning in my home. I planned to mount it in a doorway. Before I had time to hang it, I stuck it on top of the TV at the foot of my bed and it hasn’t moved since!!! The rotating grill gives a nice, gentle, cool breeze every 30-45 seconds. Love it!

I could do without all the plastic, but this fan did hard time last summer and hasn’t let me down this season. It needs a serious vacuuming, frankly.

Other fans from this manufacturer appear kinda cheezy, but the FTY-25 is a winner.

Soleus Air FTY-25 10-Inch Wall Mountable Table Fan

This fan is whisper quiet, even at the highest speed. The tilt function is useful — it tilts at a 45-degree angle, so it’s necessary to reposition the entire fan as to direction once you have it tilted to aim it where you want the air to go.

The rotating grille, at first, looks symmetrical. On closer inspection, each successive louver changes angle as they move around the circle of the grille. Thus, when you turn the grille rotation feature on, the air sweeps in a wide conical pattern as it moves away from the fan. If you want the air to go in a particular direction, you can leave the grille rotation switch in the off position and rotate the grille by hand until the air is blowing in the direction you want.

I actually use the two-hour timer feature a lot. The exhaust fan in my bathroom is ineffective, so when I shower, I leave the door open and have a fan blowing into the bathroom so that moisture doesn’t cling to the walls and cause mildew. After the shower, I keep the fan on for two hours to make sure the entire bathroom dries out. My tile stays mildew-free a lot longer when I do this. I can leave for work with the fan running.

During a heat wave, when it cools off at night as it does here, I set the fan in my window, up against the screen, to bring cool air inside. At bedtime, if it’s still a few degrees too warm, I keep the fan on and use the 2-hour timer so it doesn’t stay on all night.

This is the quietest fan I’ve ever owned, though not the most powerful. It’s great for smaller rooms, especially the bedroom at night when it’s warm. The timer is absolutely quiet. (If you happen to get one that ticks loudly as another reviewer did, it’s defective and you should exchange it for another one.)

One other nice thing is that you can mount this fan on a wall or on a door jamb, high up and out of the way. There are a couple of key-hole shaped screw holes in the bottom of the feet to accept mounting screws. Very useful if you have a situation where you need the fan in a permanent place and you want it out of the way — I’m going to mount it on the wall just outside my bathroom for just this reason and buy a second one for the living room, to use on the window sill.
